WHAT DOES THE TERM MEAN?

It is important to us that you as our customer experience IDÉ House of Brands as a safe partner when purchasing product media. In recent years, more and more terms relating to the environment, sustainability and production have emerged. What do GOTS and RPET actually mean? Get the answer here!

RECYCLED

Recycled means that a product or material has been reused from waste and made into new products or materials. An example is a t-shirt made from recycled cotton. This means that the cotton is made from either used clothing or surplus from a textile production. The cotton is spun into new yarn and used in new production.

BPA-FREE

BPA is an abbreviation for Bisphenol A and is a chemical substance that was previously widely used in plastic products. BPA can have harmful effects on health, which is why more and more products are tested and labeled as BPA-free. Examples of products are water bottles and lunch boxes.

PET AND RPET

PET stands for polyethylene terephthalate and is a type of plastic used to make bottles and containers, as an example. RPET is recycled PET, for instance when beverage bottles are recycled to make other products. From 2021, all Coca-Cola bottles on Norwegian store shelves were made from 100% recycled plastic.

ORGANIC COTTON

Organic means that no toxic chemicals are used in production. When cotton is organic, it means that farmers avoid toxic chemical pesticides and the cotton is not genetically modified. This is also known as organic cotton.

GOTS

GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard, and is an international labeling scheme for organic textiles. The requirement is that at least 70% of the fibers in the garment are organically grown. In addition, the textiles must meet environmental and health requirements throughout the production process.

TESTED AND APPROVED

When a product is tested and approved, it means that tests have been carried out to check that the product and/or production complies with the standards that have been set. If something is approved, there must be documentation of the test report and certificates.

REACH

REACH is a set of chemical regulations and stands for "Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and restriction of Chemicals". These regulations are intended to protect people and the environment from hazards arising from the production, sale and use of chemicals. This is done by gaining more knowledge about chemical substances and restricting the use of the most harmful chemicals. The substances that give the greatest cause for concern are included on the candidate list, also known as the SVHC list. Examples of these substances are those that are harmful to health, including carcinogenic, mutagenic and toxic to reproduction. Other substances on the candidate list are those that are very harmful to the environment, endocrine disruptors and generally harmful to health and the environment.
