CLIMATE ACCOUNTING

IDÉ House of Brands is taking responsibility beyond our value chain by investing in the Thor Heyerdahl Climate Park tree planting project, located in the Ayeyarwady region of Myanmar. The project is certified and in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for social and environmental improvement. This moves society in the right direction to reach a low-carbon economy.

We are proud to help plant mangrove trees as an offset for our scope 1 and 2 emissions in every country we operate in. These official carbon credits fund 3.5 mangrove trees per ton of carbon dioxide emitted. "The Thor Heyerdahl Climate Park is a carbon sequestration project, which means that CO₂ is removed from the atmosphere and sequestered for long periods. One mangrove tree can sequester one ton of CO₂ over 20 years. This means that IDÉ lays the foundation for carbon dioxide sequestration 3.5 times our total annual emissions.

In addition to the climate impact, the project provides employment and income to the local population, which supports two of our sustainability goals: Goal 4 Quality education and Goal 8 Decent work and economic growth. Planting mangrove forests creates local jobs both directly through breeding and planting, but also indirectly by strengthening the livelihoods of local communities. Planting new mangrove forests sequesters CO2 from the atmosphere through photosynthesis and thus helps to mitigate climate change. One new mangrove tree can sequester approximately 1 tCO2 over a twenty-year period.

The Thor Heyerdahl Climate Park projects aim to restore and plant mangrove trees in the Ayeyarwady region of Myanmar where only 16 percent of the original mangrove forest remains (NASA, 2013). The destruction of mangrove forests in tropical coastal areas is an ecological disaster for the people living there, and there is an urgent need for ecosystems and mangrove forests to be restored and managed in a sustainable way.

Since 2019, the Thor Heyerdahl planting area is 2,100 hectares and will be expanded by a further 75,000 hectares by 2023. The goal is to complete the planting of 300 million trees by 2023, which will biologically capture and store over 150 million tons of CO2. The project's plant survival rate is 86 percent, which is well above the average for other projects. The project has also created up to 100 new jobs for local people in aquaculture and strengthened local sustainable development with an emphasis on women's development in the MaGyi community.

Climate accounting IDÉ House of Brands 2022

The purpose of this report is to provide an overview of the organization's emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG), as an
integrated part of an overall climate strategy. A climate account is an important tool in the work of identifying
concrete measures to reduce its energy consumption and associated GHG emissions. This annual report enables the
organization to measure key figures and thus evaluate itself over time.
